A native of Ottawa, Brett McGarry is a criminal defence lawyer who represents people charged with criminal and regulatory offences in Ontario. He has successfully defended clients in trials before the Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Justice against a broad range of charges. In particular, he has had success defending impaired driving and sexual assault cases, two complex and difficult areas of the law. Read about his recent successes here.
Much of Brett’s practice is focused on representing people who are strangers to the justice system. He has represented public servants, teachers, lawyers, engineers and other professionals who have unexpectedly been charged with a crime.

Brett articled for the judges of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in 2007. This unique exposure to serious criminal cases provided Brett with insight into the decision making process in trials, which contributes to his successful results today.
Brett has spoken at conferences for lawyers and judges on various topics. He regularly attends seminars to stay current on new developments in criminal law. He is also involved in organizing educational events for the legal profession.
Community Involvement
Brett recently served two terms as a trustee on the board of the County of Carleton Law Association (CCLA), an association of Ottawa lawyers from all practice areas. He remains involved with a number of CCLA committees. Outside of the law, Brett has been involved in coaching minor hockey for a number of years.

Today, Brett represents client’s in Ottawa, Cornwall, Brockville, Smith Falls, Carleton Place, Perth, Renfrew, Pembroke, Hawkesbury, L’Orignal, Alexandria, Morrisburg, Kemptville, Peterborough, Kingston and other locales in Eastern Ontario.
Family & Personal Life
Brett lives in Ottawa with his wife and children. When he is not practicing law he can often be found playing or coaching hockey at local arenas.
